Congratulations and welcome to the Academy Gold Rising Program! You are about to embark on an unforgettable summer learning the ins and outs of the film industry. Read on for a few things you need to know before you get started.
Virtual Program: For the health and safety of our staff, partner companies, members and Gold Rising participants, this year’s Academy Gold Rising Program will take place virtually from June 15 to August 6. If circumstances change to allow Gold Rising events to take place in person later in the year, we will inform participants as soon as possible.
Orientation: We look forward to seeing you all via Zoom on June 15 and 16. These two days are packed with panels, tours and social events to kick off Academy Gold, and attendance is mandatory. We will be communicating with the companies where you're interning, but make sure to let your direct supervisor know you will be out those days. More detailed information will be sent to you about this in the coming weeks, so watch your inbox.
Social Media: A key to your success in the Gold Program is networking. In that spirit, we’d like to invite you to our closed Facebook group, Academy Gold Rising Facebook Group 2022. This is where you can connect with fellow Gold interns and get updates from the Academy Gold team. We will be celebrating and sharing your experience this summer through photos and videos online. We hope you will follow our Academy Gold public accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. And we encourage you to document your summer experience using the hashtag #AcademyGold!
The Gold App: The Gold App will be your hub for all program events and information. Each event may be saved as a calendar invite for easy mobile access to dates, times, locations and other up-to-date information. We’ll send you a link and instructions soon!
Weekly Panels: Every Wednesday at 4:00 pm PST, we’ll host a panel of artists, professionals and Academy members for a discussion on a particular facet of the industry. Panels should conclude by approximately 5:30, although some guests may stay online longer as schedules permit. Attendance for Wednesday panels is mandatory. These events will give you the opportunity to learn from experts who can help you get your career off on the right track.
Production Track: Additional Saturday workshops and masterclasses focused on various facets of production are mandatory for Gold Rising Production Track participants.
Group Projects: Within the first week of the program, you will receive more information on your opportunity to collaborate with other 2022 Academy Gold Rising participants to produce a results-oriented tangible project. Our team members will guide and prepare you for the opportunity to showcase the project to peers and industry leaders.
Required Reading: From time to time, there will be required reading for panels or workshops. Most of these will be short pieces easily accessed through the Gold App. Before orientation, please read Carole Kirschner's HOLLYWOOD GAME PLAN. You will receive the book in the mail with other welcome materials. If you do not receive by June 10, please email GoldRising@Oscars.org.
Gold Surveys: Over the course of this summer, we will be asking all Gold Rising participants to complete a series of short surveys. These will be conducted by an outside company and any feedback you provide will be kept anonymous. By completing the surveys, you'll be helping us make the program better for this year and beyond. You will be receiving an email from the Gold Rising team with the survey details. Please complete the pre-orientation survey by Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
Academy Events: Over the course of the summer, we hope to invite you to attend Academy events online. Each program may feature cast and crew for a great conversation that is not to be missed! Watch for announcements from us in your email and the Facebook group, and make sure you RSVP as soon as possible.
Closing Ceremony: We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, August 6 for a Gold Rising graduation ceremony and celebration.
Life After Gold Rising: In November, you’ll be paired with an Academy member as your mentor for the next eight months. You also will become a proud graduate of the Academy's Foundation and Education programs which includes our Nicholl screenwriting fellows and Student Academy Award winners as well as past and future classes of all the Academy Gold programs. We will provide you with more information on the Academy’s programs, alumni opportunities, and other useful resources to help you begin your career in film.
You are the future of film. The future is now.
